Getting an Account on Hellbender: (SEMO, Missouri Western, Webster, Lincoln, Northwest Missouri State)

Task 1: Establish ORCID Account

What is an ORCID?

ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID — a persistent, globally unique identifier.

Why do we need this?

This ORCID relates to federated authentication

  • Federated authentication allows users to log in to systems using an identity provided by another trusted identity provider (IdP).
  • Examples: your university login, Google, ORCID
  • To create your Hellbender account - we need to have a unique identifier from a trusted source – so we are using ORCID
Creating an ORCID

Step 1: Go to: https://orcid.org/

Step 2: Select “Register Now”

Step 3: On the “Create your ORCID iD“ – make sure to use your university e-mail address on this screen

Step 4: Fill out the rest of the form to establish your ORCID

Task 2: Create RSS CILogon Account

What is CILogon?

CILogon is an identity and access management service that supports login from many identity providers (IdPs), including universities, Google, GitHub, and ORCID. ORCID acts as a federated identity provider within CILogon.
